Hi. I am thinking about buying a 1999 S70. I have a question: What is the black box that sits above the passenger side fender between the coolant resivoir and the windshield washer fluid filler. The car I am looking at is missing the short accordion style connecting hose. Thanks

 

It holds the ECM and TCM.

 

Correct, it holds the engine computer and the transmission control computer. I would not worry too much about the hose, we ran our 95 850 (pretty much the same car as the S70) without that hose for 10 years with no issues.

 

Thanks. I am going to pickup the car Saturday. $4800. Body good, tires new, struts, trans fluid, turbo, engine oil seals, and other stuff fixed over the years. 155,000 miles. Needs PCV system work and brake booster fixed. Car drives good and has decent power. AWD also.
