Lightbulb No Start/Crank Service Alert - Video

Lately I have been reading a lot of NO START/NO CRANKING issues with the Volvo 850, S70, V70 cars. The bulk of the issues have been bad/poor battery cable connections at the positive cable lead.

The symptoms are as follows:
- No crank.
- Slow to start cranking.
- No crank but will jump.
- Intermittent no crank.
- Low charging voltage on live data.
- Low battery charging.

My car had a slow to crank problem for months. I credited it to a bad battery (which had a bad cell or two). Then one day it just would NOT crank at all (post battery replacement). So I did what most people would do... replaced the starter, just to have it NOT crank again. Urrggghhhh!!! So I took the positive battery cable end APART and cleaned between the wires and vaarrroooommmmm, off I went.

Bottom line is, our battery cable ends don't usually corrode like they did in the old school days. A large mound of white corrosion of the terminals where you quickly seen that they needed to be cleaned off. Part of normal maintenance back in the day. Today's newer cars build up near invisible corrosion on and between the cables that is basically invisible to the glance. Clean your cables every year or two.
