Unhappy Rip? 99 s70 t6

Well at 204k... I think the life is over for my car!

Was driving home and felt a misfire (car was not overheating) so after getting home I checked the code and sure enough it was cylinder #2 missing..

I checked both the plug and coil and they are in working condition so I then checked the reservoir tank and it looks like there is oil mixed in.

guessing this is the head, could this be anything else or am i just doomed and its about time to start looking for a new Volvo..

I would check compression. Did you swap the coil to another cylinder?

My guess is that it burnt a valve.

I did swap the coil and plug with working ones and it did not change the problem.

If the compression is bad (which it has to be because of the misfire) how can I tell if it is being caused by a bad valve or the head? or even both?

There is no smoke coming from the exhaust, if the valve and rings are bad shouldn't it be smoking?

Also, if it was just the head gasket.. that could still make it misfire but the compression would be better on that cylinder?

Thanks for all the help!!!!

No compression from a burnt valve. No smoke for anything other than a blown valve stem seal or head gasket leak in the cylinder from the coolant chamber.

There is no reason a head gasket will blow all of the sudden unless you over heated the motor.

If you add a little oil in the cylinder the compression will jump if you have a ring problem. Will not help if a valve is burnt/chipped.

Compression will be worse on a cylinder with a bad head gasket.

Thanks for the reply! I'm going to check the compression on Sunday and I'll post the numbers..

Either way if its the rings or a burnt valve the engine is done..

I checked the compression..

I got about 130 for all cylinders other than the bad cylinder #2 (checked them with the engine being cold)

And for cylinder #2 i got "0". When I had that one hooked up it wouldn't even "crank" just sounded like one solid motion of the belt turning and the other cylinders sounded like they were trying to crank..
