Hi!

I'm new to the forums. I don't have a Volvo, but my girlfriend's mom has a (IIRC) 2000 S70 (non-turbo).

She says there is a horrible noise (I assume a loud squeal) when she turns the wheel during tight parking maneuvers. She apparently took it in to the Volvo dealership, and they did something to it (I have to find out what--I haven't had a chance to talk to her yet), but it did not fix the problem.

I'm guessing the powersteering belt needs replacement and/or it was replaced, but was not properly tensioned. Does this make sense?

I have some experience working on Mazdas, but not Volvos or anything else. Does anyone have directions on how to replace the powersteering belt? Thanks.

Yeah I have the same problem.

It is awful.

The dealership can lube a part in the steering column up, but it will go back to the sound eventually.

I had the dealership lube that part up and as I left their parking lot it started back up again.

 

my main question is, is it going to break or will it just remain like that? I am going on a road trip soon and dont want the steering to just go out.

 

This is a common problem. You need to lube the steering stops. Next time your service person has it on the rack have them do it. Only takes minutes.
