Default Starting issues

So a brief history and run-down:

About 2 years ago now I got this vehicle. One of the first days I had it, it wouldn't start...no click, no attempt, no lights going dim..nothing. Tapped the starter while trying and it started right up. Ordered a new starter but since it never happened again, never got around to putting it in.

Fast forward to about a week ago...car would have issues starting, you'd hear the starter slip and make massive noise; this would get worse in hotter temperatures. This morning I put the new starter in, started right up (TYC branded starter). I turn it off, try again, nothing, same symptoms. I wait a few seconds and try again, good. Do this all over again, nothing, then good. Then I tried another few times in a row without issue and seemingly (for now) anytime I try it's good. Are there any known issues that can cause this?

I can also tell you yesterday on the old starter it sounded entirely wrong (slipped, etc) but got the car started, then the car ran like crap for a few blocks (very low power, Check Eng light) and once I restarted it, fine.

Hoping this isn't something bad in the works...

An update:

I went out there this afternoon and tried to start it, nothing. Took the ground wire off, re-attached, started right up. I used a pair of pliers and tightened the ground wire clamp before re-attaching again, hopefully that was the issue.
