tail light fixture
anyone know where to buy the 'fixtures' for the tailights on the s70. mine have bad connections, and ive cleaned them and everything, but still have the problems. i cant find them on ebay or fcp groton.
Do you mean the bulb holders? if so, try a salvage yard... however, before you do anything else, look at the plug that plugs in to the bulb holders, particularly the right outside one, and check the wiring and terminals, particularly the terminal with the black wire(s) going to it. That is the ground, and it's big enough to carry JUST enough current to power all the light bulbs at once, with no room for error, so any corrosion anywhere will cause that connection to get excessively hot, which will lead to melting insulation, more corrosion- particularly in the wire itself- and could even cause a fire. If the problem you're having is as follows: bulb failure light flashing or flickering when the turn signal is on, but goes away upon application of the brakes, then that's your issue. (you might also notice a difference in brightness of one or more bulbs depending on what else is on- for example, with the turn signal on, the tail lights might dim when the turn signal light is flashing on, and brighten back up when the turn signal flashes off.
If that terminal is damaged, fix that before you change the bulb holder, or else you'll just ruin the new bulb holder, as well. Repairing that connection usually requires a new plug housing, a new terminal, a terminal removal tool, a crimper, and good wiring skills- a poor new connection will simply result in the new repair failing again. You could try snipping off the whole thing and soldering on a replacement, good pigtail, however, even soldering wires can result in a little resistance, and with the tiny margin of error built in to that connection, it might get too hot again, and do the same thing.
