Texas Inspection Sticker and the Check Engine Light
Jeez I hate that light! But now a new twist!!!
The car in question is a 1998 S70 Turbo. Bought it 7 years ago for my oldest and handed it down to my youngest 3 years ago. The car has be fantastic, EXCEPT THAT LIGHT. Every year it's a problem at inspection time. in the past the would run it on a dyno and all would be good. But now Texas has to have "computer to computer communication". And we can't get it reset because of that temperature component of the reset procedure (58 degrees. I live in Texas. And it's summer)
Apparently it resets thru the Volvo Computer but transmits the error code to the states on-line 'puter. (The car has been maintained since new by a local dealer or shop that is owned by an ex service manager who has always done first rate repairs. )
So my son is driving with some sort of paperwork to ward off the police but he leaves for college next month and I'd like it REALLY fixed before he goes.
Any ideas??
Don

I ran into the same problem and was able to get my sticker due to a technicality. Once you reset the codes, the OBD has to have all the sensors through out the car check in. Well, there's a bit of a loophole that says that a '98 model car can have either two or three (can't remember) of the check in's and still pass inspection.
