I have a turbo AWD 99 S70 that had a bad head gasket. Got it torn apart and found out it had a tiny crack in the head as well. So I order another head from a salvage yard in Oregon. Of course they said it was guaranteed to not be cracked and that it was machinable. So I took it in to the machine shop to have it resurfaced and it was over 17000ths gap on the surface. The guy said it had also already been machined once. So, now I have two heads that I can't use and a car that has been sitting for weeks. What should I do now?

Is there a place I can get a remanned head somewhere that won't cost a $1000? Thanks for any info.

There's a place online... can't remember their name... that does only cylinder heads. I think the heads for Volvo 5- cylinders are around $500.

Was the crack on your original head not repairable? they often are.

 

I don't know the machine shop didn't mention repairing it and I didn't know where to take it. It's a very small crack though I would think it would be repairable.

 

Can anyone please give me some suggestions. I called Cylinder Head of Clearwater and they don't have one to use?

 

This is so odd I have done many many heads and never had a cracked one.
I will see if I can find another place.
