What Engine do I have?
I am using my Daughters 1999 Volvo S70. Where can I find what engine I have and whether it is a turbo. I got the numbers off the engine compartment plate but could not figure it out. Thanks.
There are several ways to tell if the car is turbo.
- Look at the motor. If there is a fat tube that goes over the right side of the motor to the back side (near the fire wall), it is a turbo model. (The big black tube going between the arrows).

- Look at the sticker on the front of the motor (passenger side of the motor on the S70's), the timing belt cover. If it has a T at the end of it, it is a turbo. (The one below is NOT turbo "B6304 S").
- Look on the back of the car, if it has a T in the badge of it, it is likely turbo (very true of all Volvo's built after 1996).

- Look at the VIN. The 6th and 7th number in the VIN disclose the engine that is in the car. When you get those 2 numbers, match them up with the VIN decoder on Volvo's website to see the motor specs (that was in the car when it was built).
Volvo Cars | Community | Your Volvo - Drive the car around and get it warmed up. Pull up next to a kid with a sporty car. Stick your toung out to them then smash the gas down real hard. If the car lunges forward and leaves the kid behing, you have a turbo. If the kid blows by you and leaves you behind, you DON'T have a turbo.

Hi guys. How would you know if you have 850 or t5? Me and my friend comparing our vin on the vin he has 58 cos he has an R and I have 850. But he said regular 850 should say 55 but mine said 57 on the vin number. Thanks in advance.
