wheel/tire change
I have a 98 S70 T5 R code with a 215/55/16 5x108 stock wheel tire setup.
A neighbor has a set of 235/50/18 5x108 wheels and tires for sale from a 04 Jag XJ8 Will they fit my car? |
No. The XJ's wheels have a 63.4 mm center bore and the Volvo hubs use a 65.1mm bore wheel.
As general info, to swap wheels for an 850/S70 you need three things - 1) correct bolt pattern (ie 5x108), 2) correct offset (in a 17/18 rim you'd want ET40 or so) 3) correct center bore (65.1mm). You can put a larger bore wheel on a smaller bore hub using hub centric rings but not the other way around. Also you should check to make sure your lug bolts are correct for the new wheels as some are conical and some are rounded. Your car uses an M14x1.5 size. |
Thank you for the reply. I looked on wheel-size.com after the posting and noted it had
8Jx18 ET49 vrs my 6.5Jx16 ET43 so figured the offset killed he deal. I had no idea about the bore though so thanks again. Too bad because the car needs wider tires and a lower profile and the Jag set was only $200 for the wheel-tire set. |
oddly it looks like those wheels will fit other (newer) volvo models like the Gen2 S40 and those after 2010 when Volvo went to a 63.4 center bore. I do have a set of 15x6 steelies that'll fit if you want to go retro for the winter LOL

I really want to go to a 17" with a lower profile and a little wider stance to improve handling. I've done all the basic mods (injectors, IDP RIP, RAM air, stage 1 tune, hi-flo intercooler and turbo back exhaust to around 315 hp along with upgraded shocks, struts and springs that lowered it about 1".

IMHO, upgrading the sway bars is the biggest bang for the buck. I dropped the IPD HD bars on my 850T wagon and it was a huge difference without needing to go to lowering springs. IPD also shows an 18x8 Pegasus rim - I'd bet they'd have some insights into offset/fitment etc on the S70.

Thanks again for the info.
How about these: Selling a set of Volvo C30 Mestra wheels and tires. These are the factory wheels that came with the 2009 C30. I think mine have a CB 65.1 and these have 63.4 |
wheel-size.com is a good reference resource for factory rim specs by make/model/trim

It can be done

There are two options to make those 18 inch Jaguar rims, or any rim with a 63.4mm center bore fit. The first way is time consuming and difficult to keep the center bore hole perfectly round, is done by honing ( grind, sand or file) out the 63.4mm to 65.1mm. I used this method using an angle grinder with a diamond plated cut off wheel to make my 2015 xc60 ocean race Portunus rims fit my 2001 v70xc and 2004 s60. It took 2 days and about 20 test fits to finally get them to fit. The second option is to buy hub centric wheel adapters that'll fit the stock 65.1mm hub and change hub size to 63.4. I wish I found these beforehand. Here's a couple links for the hub centric adapters. https://a.co/d/8jlQ4Mq https://ebay.us/m/eOQE2I |
