I was under the hood yesterday checking all my fluids and found that my transmission fluid has lost its pink color and has turned rather dark. The car is an 05 S80 2.5t with 81,000 miles. I know volvo says you can go up to 105k on the transmission fluid but that just seems stupid. Do you think I should change the fluid? and if so, what type of fluid should I use?

Mobil 3309 ATF (Google for suppliers) or Toyota Type IV ATF works in the AW55sn transmission. you will need about 14 quarts. Get you fluid change kit at IPD it contains the tube, green clamp and O rings. Remember that Volvo reversed the fluid flow in the S80. The old fluid will come out the upper radiator cooler port not the line which goes into the radiator. I did my 06 in about 30 minutes with a neighbor's help.

 

did you check the owners manual. Its right there. could have saved time instead of asking what kind needed
