Exclamation 2001 volvo s80 overheated & now will not start

I have a 01 VOLVO s80. This car has been really great to me. I recently noticed that every week my LOW COOLANT light would come on, and I would just add 50/50 to the coolant dispenser.

A week ago I topped off all the fluids, while cleaning my car out. I noticed while filling fluids that the radiator hose had a small leak at the base of the radiator. I unscrewed the O-RING to replace it, and when I did the lip of the radioator came off inside of the hose.

I hooked the hose up to take it to my brothers shop. He ordered a new radiator. I ended up driving home, and the car began to get hot, and steam poured out under the hood. I parked it in my drive, and waited a few hours for it to cool down. Now it will not even turn over at all. When it turns over I smell gas under the hood.

At first I thought maybe the head gasket was blown. But this was really the first time it ever overheated. There is no water in the oil. The radiator & coolant holder both are clean (no oil) indications. Also no smoke rolling out of the tail pipe.

I reset the ECM by taking the NEG cable off, and pushing the brake pedal 3 times etc. I still dont have any luck. Is it worth me even trying to fix this car?

Any ideas?
