2004 Volvo S80 common problems? IF any?
Hey everyone, im new to this forum so let me say a big "HELLO" to everyone out there.
I am a 18, soon to be 19 year old avid car fan and Ive been looking for a car for college for a while now. I take the bus and its really a huge pain in ****....
Well, ive been going to a local car auction for months now and I think this week I found the nice prize ive been looking for: A 2004 Volvo S80
Actually, there are TWO of them. Yes, two 2004 Volvo S80's at the auction. I can't go see them until friday at 10:00 am but I know from the auctions website that they are both black and have the 2.5T engine. But I don't know if they have AWD or FWD.....
One of them has 169K miles and the other one has 116K miles. Same color, same model, and same powertrain..... anything real bad in these cars to look for or are they good? I know these are the face-lifted models so I assume Volvo straightened out most of the kinks that the early 99's and 00's had but still.... is there anything real bad to look for?

Im hoping to get the 169K mile one for 3-4 grand or the 116K for 4-5 grand... they may go less though!

I have had an 04 S80 T6 since new. I am at 100k miles and the car is for sale. I haven't had a lot of the computer related problems that others have had but I can tell you that the cost of ownership is much hogher than the other Volvos I've owned. Throttle surges and vacuum leaks from expensive hoses in very hard to reach places have been an issue. I hear that motor mounts go early as do transmissions. I would not suggest this model for a young person on a budget unless you are really good with the electronic systems troubleshooting and have the time, tools and shop. I turned my V70 T5 over to my son at 150k and it has been great for him. Not as pretty and not as fast but fast enough and fun to drive. That would be my recomendation in the Volvo world.
