2009 S80 T6 Engine Noise
Purchased New Dec. 2008
Prior to purchase while test driving the vehicle I noticed a slight engine noise that sounded like rattling. The dealer explained that it was the brake covers used during transit. Sure enough I noticed that there were white plastic covers. Bought the explanation and the car.
Soon after purchasing I noticed the same noise, covers were now removed.
Returned to the dealership with the same complaint. The shop manager test drove the car with me and he could not hear it. At this point I thought that whatever the noise it wouold show up and/or get louder to a point where someone else would hear it. That is, other than my wife and myself.
We now have 37K miles on the car and the noise has gotten louder. Other than recalls and regular service no other mechanical issues have cropped up. The car did overheat and shutdown due to the ECU programming issues they were having.
The noise: It is most recognizable upon light acceleration from about 10- 45 mph. It sounds like lifter clacking/rattle. Letting off the accelerator the noise stops. After about 50 it is no longer discernable, that may be due to road noise. Upon occasion, while using cruise control and at highway speeds it can be heard "ever so slightly".
Any known problems or suggestions??
We love the car!
