Greetings all!!!! Glad to be a part of the community. Bought my first Volvo a couple of months ago, a 2001 S80 2.9 with 156k miles. What an awesome performing vehicle!! Love everything about it, except......
Heres my challenge. It had a trans leak at the pan gasket so I changed fluid with new filter.
1-2 shift is fine. I have a delayed shift into 3rd. Will not sift into 3rd until driving faster than 30 mph. If i stay in 2nd gear too long car goes into limp mode - trans service urgent and cel come on. I carry a scanner and have just resorted to clear code and car drives fine. Code says shift 2-3 solenoid faulty. Took it to a local reputable trans shop and they said REBUILD. I dont believe I have an internal issue as I can clear code on the fly and car will drive normal. Went to bone yard and swapped tcm to no avail.
Also, when driving at hwy speed and I step on accelerator it will come out of od no problem. But if i press accelerator a little bit more it will downshift from 4-3, then will shift to 4th, then back to 3rd and back to 4th while keeping accelerator steady. I can drive around this by simply flooring it then it will stay in 3rd, but this is not how it is suppose to drive.
Am getting frustrated with this and cant afford a rebuild. Could it be as simple as having the tcm updated or is is replace solenoid time

You'll need VIDA/DICE to see what's really going on but more than likely it will need to be rebuilt. Here's a website that explains the issues:

Thank you for the link - great info. Pretty much sums up what I got going on and makes sense. Was looking into getting a Vice off flea-bay, could be very useful also for overhaul of tranny and future repairs.
