Why do some people say to avoid these years of the s80. I am looking into buying a 2000 and was wondering what the concern is (if any).

The S80 over all design is okay. But, they are expensive to repair or up keep. The throttle response sux due to the weak style tuning, it weighs 3600lbs, its FWD, the steering takes some getting used to due to it being electronicly assited, plus the aftermarket is also weak for performance parts. There is some stuff out there, but most of it is over priced, and no serious mods, just small upgrades. But who cares about going big with a Volvo. My guess is that most of these things issues accross the board with Volvo. Though the AWD S60's look fun.

Got to agree with Lab_Rodent, aftermarket parts arn't great to come buy and volvo parts can be expensive however this is the case with most volvo's anyway!

I have a 1999 S80 T6 SE and love it to bits had little repairs done but at the end of the day it's done 120,000 miles so they are expected! and there a lot of electrical ecu's on canbus etc which can cause head aches but most cars are coming through with this now.

I Don't have a problem with my throttle response however it is a 2.9 twin turbo (272 bhp) i can see how smaller engines may struggle to haul the weight!

Some people say stay clear as it was all new technology around those years, get a later model to make sure the bugs are ironed out, i agree to a point but at the end of the day i paid 10% of the price that the original buyer did so in my mind it evens out (with a little more in my favour)

bgza80,
I paid £4800 for a late 1999 T6 around 18 months ago with 100,000 full volvo service record and every receipt for every repair all done expensivly at Volvo!. it is 100% excellent condition and extreamly well looked after i also have the original receipt of purchase they bought some extras and paid just over £53,000!
So working on your car $8500 is around £4500 with less miles but now a little older i think if it's in good nick it's not a bad price based on pounds not sure on dollars?

Bigjdog15
You also did well at 22,000 not so many s80 7/8 years old with that many miles on thats 2750 miles a year!
