I own a 99 s80 t6 with 105k on it. a couple of days ago i was driving down the highway with no problem, i then got off the highway and came to a red light. when the light turned green i stepped on the gas and the car would not move but it had rolled out to the middle of the street so i put it in reverse and stepped on the gas again and it just rolled more in to the street (lol) putting me more into traffic. So the car just acted like it was in neutral. the car would go in to all the gears even in the tiptronic gears but would not move, the engine turns on and accelerates but the car only rolls. so i took it to my mechanic that just did 2300$ worth of suspension work on it 10 days before and they are saying that the computer reads that "torque converter clutch silenoid", now they are saying i need a new tranny. ranging anywhere from 5k-1800. what should i believe and what can i do. has anyone had this issue before or do you think this mechanic is kinda taking me for a ride? is it possible that they might have caused this issue with the previous work done to the car?

 

That is a pretty common issue with the S80's for some reason(Thank GM for it)

I would try to find a used tranny and have it installed.

 

whats the history of the car ? anything led to it ? was it shifting hard ?

id like to know in order to prevent this
