Default Check engine light loose gas cap?

I have replaced the gas cap, looked all over for a bad hose/connection and still can't stop this CEL from coming back! HELP!!! I even took out the back seat and checked by the gas tank. Does anybody know where to find the relays for the evac system or/and have any clue what the most common cause for this trouble? 2000 S80 non turbo. Thanks before I take a bat this car!

The evap valve is mounted to the cooling fan. Take it off and try to blow through the valve. You should not be able to. If you can it is bad.

In the back by the canister there is another valve called a shut off valve it can be bad as well.

Default EVAP valve OK

Hi Tech, I goggled volvo evap and I found a thread at volvo forum on the v70 with the same trouble. I just finished removing the evap valve (same place as the v70) and it checked ok . I tested with a 12 volt battery also and it operates just fine. I also cleaned it with brake fluid and put it back in, reset the CEL. I will check the shut off valve if the CEL comes back on after driving it tommorrow. I'll let you know what I find.
Thanks Again for the help.

Default one more thing

don't know if this means anything but it seems that this CEL started happening after the right rear speed sensor was replaced by a repair shop. Does the evap hose go back there?

Yes it is.

scubatelco The canister is on top of the rear suspension so maybe them changing parts might have done something.

There is a J hose that comes off the canister. On the end of the J hose is the valve.

Default buried above rear end

Tech I jacked the car up and can see the canister and the J tube, as well as the wiring connector, but how in the world do you get at it to repair. I can't even get my hand up there, only to touch the wiring connector. WOW! I am guessing this is one for the repair shop to fix?

Well you have to drop the rear suspension some to be able to get the valve out.
