Emission service 99 s80 2.9l

I have a 1999 s80 2.9, the alternator recently died and i had it rebuilt, today i was driving and the car started smelling like rotten eggs, and the rpm was slighlty moving up and down as if it was stalling, the emmssion service light has been on for about a month and the computer said to "drive slowly, emission servie required urgently". i drove very gently home and parked it. a bumping noise was coming from under the car. what could his be, i really hate how this car just decides to break, and P.S it has 198k on it so i guess a lot more problems are going to come up
