Default Gas gauge not accurate S80

I wrote in about my 2004 S80 shutting down on me after I'd only had it 2 weeks. I towed the car back to the guy I got it from. He took it to Volvo and they said the computer under the hood (controls lights/gauges, etc. on the front dash) needed to be updated, which only Volvo can do. He had them do that and I got the car back today. Paid $250 for it (is that good? bad? I'd like to know.) Car performed like I'd like it to. I stopped and filled the tank and the gauge still only reads a little over half tank. Did I mention the gas gauge was always faulty like that? I told the guy I got it from about it the first night I had it. He said something about 'you know these foreign cars...just pull the pump out a little more and see if that helps.' Didnt help. And now, even with the software revamped (i.e., updated), the gauge still doesnt go to full tank. I hate to say it, but it makes me nervous. I drive 100 miles out of town every other weekend to take care of my mother, and I can't be stranded on the highway! Dont want to be anyway..... Has anyone had a faulty gas gauge? Does it mean there are other underlying problems by any chance? Do I have a reason to be worried, aside from the obvious -- not ever knowing for sure how much gas I have left... Thanks! I love having the forums here to help.

sound like u have a fault w/the fuel level sensor in your fuel tank. there are 2 level sensor, the left & right. u need to run a proper diagnosis to confirm if it is the level sensor. ( cuz they are not cheap) if u just brought the car, this is part of safety in Ont. Canada. u should bring it back to where u brought it from within 30 days.
