Question Help 2004 S80 AWD T5

The rear stuts are shot. 2 independent mechanics have told me rear suspension for this model/year was unique for 3 years. Quoted parts price from Volvo of something in the order of $1800. Volvo dealer is looking at car next week. The car only has 118,000 miles. Front was replaced already. Has anyone run into this problem with a 2004 S80? Thanks, Stan

The car either has self leveling Nivomats or normal shocks. Nivomats are very expensive - $650 each list price shown below. Some OEM nivomat part number are available much cheaper from wholesale distributors (like worldpac - places shops and auto parts stores purchase from wholesale.

Or another choice is to convert to regular/standard (much cheaper ~$100 each) shocks - The springs have to be changed also or the rear end will sag - (find some used ones) - springs for the self leveling nivomats are weaker. Unfortunately - there is only one spring part number listed - and that is for a nivomat shock. It is true only 3 years of s80's had those shocks - but the same shocks/springs are used on the s60 from 2002-2009.

Ok - a solution using regular springs and shocks for a s60. Regular springs not shown with an s80 awd parts page but are with a s60 awd.
