Hid conversion problems
Hello everyone
I own a 2006 volvo s80 d5 which i brought few months back and recently tried to convert the hid lights in it, which i kept from my last car.
They are the same match h7 but the problem i have is that other then the volvo's stupid continious (light ON mode is) that as soon as i power up the lights they come on but cuts out ???.
i have tried everything but it seems to cancel the power totally, i have checked it with a tester, as soon as it canceles out there's no power there until i turn off ignition wait few seconds and turn it back on again.
I have realised that hid's dont like direct power they need side light on first wait for few seconds then dipped beam this is how it was on my last car and they are the same in my wifes alfa 147 working perfectly, so what going on with the volvo????

To convert from conventional lights to HID you need a software update from Volvo. I do not believe there is away around this.
When buying aftermarket, most places will encourage you to buy 55W HID kits (Volvo OEM conventional are 55W and HID are 35W) and a "bulb-out" canceller which helps fool the system that you have standard lights in the car. Common problems from not having the software upgrade or the bulb-out cancellers installed is no lights, intermittent lights, and lights-on then off.
