Default Humming/Buzzing After Shut Down

Recently purchased a 2002 S80 and took it in for service shortly after for a humming/buzzing sound coming from engine compartment after shut down (driver side near windshield), repair was made to ABS brake system andthat seemsto be fixed. Currently experiencing similar humming/buzzing sound from engine compartment after shut down (esp after driving hard) (driver side, but near front bumper), on for ~10 sec, off for ~20 sec, cycling 5 - 10 times before stopping, assuming cooling system (does not appear to be fan related). Is this humming/buzzing normal after car has been parked and turned off?

The cooling fan for the car will run after you have shut off the engine, especially after hard driving. This is normal and is nothing to be concerned about. Volvo's will run the AC fans in the car from time to time also when the car is off, this is all part of normal operation.

Double check to make sure that it is the fan making the noise, and then don't sweat it anymore!

your car may or may not have a vacuumpump for the brake booster... if u have the pump that could be that thing that is making the noise. if your foot is resting on the brake pedal it will try to rebuild vacuum or if u have a brake booster leak it will go on and off ocassionally on its own. hope that helps
