Default Lexis or Volvo?

So I'm thinking about getting a new to me vehicle. Right now I'm driving a 2002 Saturn SC2 and I put about 40K miles on a vehicle each year. I really want something that is reliable, decent on fuel and will be more comfortable and fun to drive than my saturn.....I realize I'm not putting the bar real high with the saturn.

So I'm looking at about 3 vehicles. Lexis IS300, volvo S80, volvo S60. I've got about a 45 miles of highway driving each way to work and I want a more comfortable ride. What vehicle should I get? What year, make, model and engine? What do I need to know about Volvo's? Should I get the Lexis?

I've got a friend that has 260K on her 2002 S80 and LOVES it. I'm tryig to learn about Volvo's and thought I would try this place.

Thanks,

Chad

If you want to buy a used S80 then you should buy them starting from the year 2004 and newer. The 99-03 S80s have the GM transmissions which are garbage. They have a 99 S80 2.9 and my transmission failed at 114K miles. So I put a new one in for $3500 plus tax. My car now has 267k miles on it. But its had a its fair share of problems. But still runs good. The early 99-03 S80s had a lot of problems with them. But many of them have gotten fixed on the 2004 and newer ones. If you want a first generation S80 then the best ones are the 04-06 years. The S60 model first came out in 2001. I have heard that the early S60's also had transmission problems. I would recommend 2005 and newer ones.

ya i have owned both a lexi and S80. Now the lexi is dependable esp the engine and its easier to work with with not crazy electronics. But the driving dynamics is kinda boring. Now the S80 to be honest i love it. mine is 2006 so ya that year you should get with basically no powertrain problems. the driving dynamics is really better than lexi.
If i were you should drive all three type of cars on your list: s60,s80 and lexi.
S60 and S80 are 90%same expect s80 is bigger ,heavier and has more leg room @ back. and S60 is more sportier, but you are ok with that then S80 wouldnt disappoint you...
So as i said you will have to drive all three types for you to feel which car suits you.
For me S80 wasnt even on the radar i was actually looking for another LExi but when i saw S80 and low miles and price and was CPO i just jumped in. Plus i like when i dont see S80 on road. it makes it unique.
