Melting RearViews and Check Engine Lights
Does anyone else have a melting tint in their rearview? kinda reminds me of a lava lamp in the summer. Is there a way to fix it or must i continue to just deal with it!?
and also.. on s80s/volvos in general... does the check engine light come on every so often as a precaution or does it really mean there is somethin up? im not talkin about the 'service' light, im talking about the "check engine"
nothing shows up in my digital dash like when other things need be done so i am just curious.
thanks alot

The check engine light shouldn't just come on as a precaution, it is telling you something is wrong and most likely a code has been stored. I'd get that checked out.
In regards to the rear view mirror, it's not that uncommon to see what you are seeing. The fluid inside the mirror is basically "leaking" and short of replacing it, there's nothing you can do.

My dealer once told me the CEL came on to ensure certain critical services were in fact performed (like when the dash warning says service due and i do it myself but may not tell the computer I did it). I am not sure that is true. I have a great opportunity to check it out as my CEL came on this morning. All metrics seem fine, but I will pull the codes this evening.
