Default Plastic cover under the engine?

Do you guys know what's the name for the big plastic cover that goes under the engine? Mine broke in half and when I ordered it over the phone, Volvo dealer sent me a wrong part.

Does the cover even has to be there? What if I remove the remaining part and drive without it?

Thanks.

What year is your S80? I pulled mine off on a high speed run (whoops) and haven't put it back on. I think I'd advise to keep one on, even if just to protect all that stuff from liquid splashes. It would help airflow too so it "may" impact fuel economy, a little.

My Volvo is 2003 S80 T6.

The other part that I got was $140 and the correct one is bigger so probably more expensive. Not sure if I want to pay $200+ for the part installed.

Drabina,
That thing is known as "splash shield," "splash guard," or "skid plate." The part number is 8619641. The cheapest one that I found was at TascaParts.com.

Haha :-) Mine too...both of my covers has been pulled off during high speed @ 180km/h...hv been driving without it for almost 3 years now...so far so good...that cover does not come cheap. After all, it's more easy to see if there's any leakage underneath ;-)

Yeah I was a smidge over 235ish when mine came off, didnt make a nice noise. Luckily it didnt come off totally, it just dropped down at the front.

drabina it looks like its $88 from tascaparts, might be worth trying a couple of breakers yards or check on craigslist in your area to see if anyone's breaking an S80.

hmmmm.. I havent had mine on the car since who knows when..

Its possible it didnt come with it, or its possible one high speed run caused it to fall off, or its possible one of those oil change places unbolted it and never put it back on, but I dont feel too badly off without it..

I tried quite a few car dismantlers with no luck (and if they had the part, they would charge $50). Apparently (in full agreement with your comments, guys) very few S80s come to the junkyard still having that skid plate attached.
