Repeated Ignition Coil Failures
I have a 2003 S80 with 125,000 miles
Last year I had cylinder 6 ignition coil fail (misfire read on scan) - replaced with a NAPA coil (replaced plug at the same time). Eleven months later, same coil failed (replaced under 3-year warranty) - four months later, the same coil failed...so, it is not a coil issue. Trying to figure out what the "something bigger" issue is... Appreciate any insight... |
did you ever check your system voltage? are you sure its the coil and not the wire harness/connector going to the coil? Next time one fails, try swapping coils between cylinders to see if the misfire moves with the coil.

Thank you for the response. I have monitored voltage. It is fine.

when I started getting random misfires on my 2000 S40, I replaced the wire harness (from the firewall to the coils) and that cured it for good. Best to inspect the connectors to the coil looking for cracks and any other fails like in the covering/insulation
