Default S80 traction control problem

I own a year 2000 S80 with 118,000 miles.

Recently it has developed a loud rasping noise when turning left. I noticed that the DSTC traction control light was coming on, so I tried turning off the traction control. This stopped the noise, but I don't know if the ABS is sending incorrect information to the traction control and causing it to come on, or if the problem is solely with the traction control.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I took my car to the local Volvo dealer and they called me to say that I needed a new ABS module at a fitted price of £1650 !!!! (2,400 US dollars).
I told them to forget it, however when I picked up the car they mentioned that the driver side front ABS ring (rotor) was corroded and broken.
I got my local garage to replace it at half the price that the Volvo dealer wanted, and now all is well :-)

You can get the ABS mod rebuilt . Google BBA REMAN I paid 125.00 two years ago and no problems since.

Thank you for this information, I'm sure it will be very useful to a lot of people. In fact in my case the Volvo dealer was completely wrong about needing a new £1650 fitted ABS module.
My local garage simply fitted a new ABS ring at a cost of £70 which solved the problem I'm very happy to say :-) The Volvo dealer wanted £150 to do the same thing.
The thing that really annoys me is that only the Volvo dealer could read the ABS module diagnostic codes, my local garage couldn't, so they could tell me anything they wanted.
Also my local garage tells me that there are a lot of jobs that can only be done by Volvo dealers as in some cases particular modules of the car's electronics will only work with Volvo dealer equipment. I don't think my next car will be a Volvo.......

I know how you feel, however all newer vehicles have "manufacturer only servicable" electronics. Import as well as American!

Your right Kev...and this is really going to hurt people that buy a used car doesn't matter what brand..when something goes wrong they will not be able to take it to their local mechanic anymore..only to the dealer...where the prices are out of sight.

The dealerships in a lot of cases are not any better then the local mechanic..and will screw you even more. I read about them on here all the time. Then there are places that do not even have a dealership in their area..like mine...4 hours away from the nearest dealer, then to own a car that can't be worked on by anyone else but the dealership..is a real Bummer...!!!
