Hello everyone, I’m considering buying a 2007 Volvo S80 V8 with only 50,000 miles on it. I asked the dealer for more pictures and a video and they sent this video. In this video, it sounds like there’s a whistling or whining coming from the left side of the engine bay. I’m not sure what the noise is and if it’s normal or not. I just wanted a second opinion.

 

first thing I'd do is pop up the dipstick and see if the whistle disappears (if it does, its likely a clogged PCV system). After that you'd need to listen around ( mechanics stethescope can help here) for possible accessory drive pulley noises, accessory noises (ie alternator, PS pump, AC compressor). As a non-turbo car, I'd start with the assumption the noise is not normal and go from there.
