Default s80t purchase opinions needed

Im looking at a 99' S80T, it has 114k miles, body is in good shape, couple scuffs nothing bad, interior in good shape, its totally loaded out, it has i guess what is the info center that pops up in the middle of the dash and all that. Engine sounded good. Its gonna need tires soon.

The bad is, ofcourse, the trans is out, It will not shift into higher gears and from what ive read the trans is a common problem. Ive done some checking and its gonna be about 2k to get the tranny rebuilt. The info center showed something about the emissions and the CEL was on and ofcourse the warning about the tranny.

the good... i can get the car for under 1500 bucks.. sooo.... ill have about 3500.00 total in it. Ive looked at the book on these and the low end in poor condition is like 4k i think. I know the cars are problematic, but, i guess im just trying to get some bias opinions on if its a good buy and worth putting the money into it. the car is for my wife and she only drives about 6k a year, mainly all local driving.

some opinons on this would help me make a decision... thanks..

Default good to ask

If the timing belt hasn't been done in 70-100K definitely consider that as well as the tranny rebuild. Should be a reliable car after that. You can handle a lot of the maintenance yourself. Also never bite on a new ABS controller b/c you can get them rebuilt for 1/10th the price.
