Self Dimming Rear View Mirror???
I recently bought a 2006 S80 and I love the car. One of the accessories it has is rain sensing wipers - pretty neat. Another accessory it may have is a self dimming rear view mirror. The mirror has no lever for dimming it which I found out tonight by trying to dim it manually. Nope, no lever. But it doesn't dim by itself either.
Can somebody tell me what I've got here? Is it supposed to self dim or not? I feel a little foolish not knowing whats going on with my own rear view mirror.
Thanks,
Fred

Does it have a switch on the mirror that makes a light come on when you push it?
If so I believe when the light is on the self dimming is activated.

Hi fredgold 52.
Have an auto-dimming rvm on my '04 S80. Have had a look at mine (UK model)but can't see any obvious on/off switch, but if you're not blinded by other carstail-gating you, then yours works.
One sure way to find out, is to get a friend to switchtheir headlights on behind you(at night obviously) whilst you look at your mirror. You "should" see a distinct difference between the brightness in the rvm mirror andfrom holding up an ordinary pocket mirror next to your rvm.
PS. It's "slightly"safer to do this when you're parked, rather than when belting down the road at 80mph.
Bestest, Mike.

No lever it is auto dimming.
On the right side ot the mirror is a small light sensor, cover this with you finger and it the mirror dims then it is working correctly. _check this instrongdaylight for best affect_
