I just purchased a 05 volvo s40, my last car was a 99 jeep grand cherokee limited. My new car does not have the auto dimming mirror option on it.
I am finding this to be very lame, I am wondering if anyone has installed a auto dimming rear view mirror after purchasing there car.
My dealer told me it causes problems with the cars computer due to the compass feature. HMM
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas about all of this.

 

You will also have to make sure the rear veiw mirror is not the Alarm computer for the car as well.

On the S80,S60 and V70 the mirror is the computer for the remotes and alarm system.

I went to my local volvo dealership and asked if they would upgrade it for me, and they said the pretty much the same thing.
Aparently another volvo dealership in my state did it for somone and had major issues with the cars computer. = (
I would really love to ditch this mirror!

I have the same 05 s40 and i wanted the same thing (along with fog lights); i spoke with my dealer (boston volvo) and i was told that it is possible but it would cost me $500; I dont think it is worth;

 

I've purchased the auto dimming mirror for $90.00...........look in any auto magazine for ordering and you can wire it in yourself. All you need is a hot lead............I put mine to the sun roof. You are supposed to wire them into the reverse switch but I did not do that. When you put the aut in reverse, the auto dimming aspect turns off.
