Special socket to remove strut????
Does anyone know if there is a special socket needed to remove the strut from the spring on a 2000 S80 T6?
Had a local mechanic attempt the job, he just called and said he can't replace my struts because a "special socket" is needed which he doesn't have!!! |
Yes you need one. But can be done without it.

Do you know of any links that give step by step? Can I get that tool somewhere? Where exactly is the nut or whatever that requires this special socket and how do I remove it without the special tool??? |
I just did a search on the internet, is this the tool I need?
http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S70V70-1...p-128-730-871/ How can I remove it without this tool? Would a Goodyear garage have this tool? My plan was to remove them from the car myself and have Goodyear remove the old struts from the spring and install the new ones, I would then install them myself on the car. Or will I not be able to remove the strut/spring assembly from the car without this tool??? |
They can tap the nut with an air chisel. Or they should be able to use a pipe wrench or channel locks.
I took an old socket and cut 4 notches out to make it for the nut. |
