Default Special socket to remove strut????

Does anyone know if there is a special socket needed to remove the strut from the spring on a 2000 S80 T6?

Had a local mechanic attempt the job, he just called and said he can't replace my struts because a "special socket" is needed which he doesn't have!!!

Yes you need one. But can be done without it.

Tell me more!
Do you know of any links that give step by step?
Can I get that tool somewhere?
Where exactly is the nut or whatever that requires this special socket and how do I remove it without the special tool???

I just did a search on the internet, is this the tool I need?

http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S70V70-1...p-128-730-871/

How can I remove it without this tool?

Would a Goodyear garage have this tool?

My plan was to remove them from the car myself and have Goodyear remove the old struts from the spring and install the new ones, I would then install them myself on the car. Or will I not be able to remove the strut/spring assembly from the car without this tool???

They can tap the nut with an air chisel. Or they should be able to use a pipe wrench or channel locks.

I took an old socket and cut 4 notches out to make it for the nut.
