Default Surging engine and bad noise

Hi everybody!

This is my first post here, so be nice with the noobie.

I have two problems with my 2000 S80 T6, that I bought used.

Problem 1:

I have a CEL that keeps coming on, showing me the code P1332 and infrequently also the P0132.

Symptoms:
- Hesitating on low rpm when engine is cold.
- Sometimes uncontrolled variable RPM around 2000rpm, even when warm engine. Repeating drops of 200-400 rpm.
- Possible rich smell from the exhaust. (Oil?)
- (Sudden cruise control disconnects)

Facts:
- About 155k miles.
- When I got the car, it was running on mineral oil. Same symptoms back then. I've changed to mineral oil and Jiffy lube suggested a engine flush (stupid of me to say yes?). Symptoms are still there, and maybe even worse.
- I don't know when the timing belt was replaced, neither do I know its condition.

Problem 2
Strange "squeaky rubber" noise, primarily when driving slowly and turning.
I can reproduce the noise by pushing the cars from the side. No sound when bouncing up and down. Any wild guesses here?
Also a bit of rumbling sound in high speed, on rough asphalt.
Any guesses here as well?

I've googled the codes, but the answers I find sounds very general.
All help is appriciated!

Best regards,
Bluescan

Looks like you do have a bad O2 sensor and the other code is for the ccvt sensor for the timing belt. Try erasing the codes and see what comes back first. Either of them would not cause erratic rpm changes. If you are mechanically inclined I would suggest doing a tune up first. Clean the ETM (Electronic throttle module/throttle body), sparks plugs, fuel and air filter and then go from there.

The ETMs on the 99-01 models have a tendency to wear out. The symptoms show as engine RPM drops / surges. The magnitude of surges will get larger the worse the ETM becomes. Also, if it gets bad enough, you might experience what feels like a rapid loss of power while operating at higher RPMs, even though it will be tough to see a change on the tachometer. Take the car to a volvo shop and ask them to do a sweep test on the ETM. Its a way to measure throttle displacement vs throttle signal. I think it should be within 5% of each other? Not so sure, but others can chime in here. If it's confirmed bad, then a place in Canada called XeMODex sells a nice aftermarket replacement for $500.

My Volvo 2000 S80 surges whenever I stop at
Red light. It's scary because I have to press
The brake all the way to the floor to keep the
Car from moving forward on it's own and
Hitting a pedestrian. Concerned!!!
Help!!

Check the ETM. The surges at low idle can cause problems when trying to negotiate parking lots, crowds... I'm struggling with that on my '01 S80.

I had the same problem with my 99 t6 it is the throttle body. atleast that is what figured all i did was remove that obnoxious tube going into it and sprayed carb cleaner and brushed it around with a tooth brush then repeated the spray to clean it out
