Default Transmission Problem HELP

Hi. I have a 1999 Volvo S80 with 129,000 Miles. The transmission urgent service light came on a couple days agoand put the car into what is called Limp Mode. I scanned the car using OBD2 and the code was P0751 (Shift Solenoid A performance or stuck off). I cleared the data which took the car out of limp mode. Took the car for a test drive. It is a 4 speed. 123D. I manually shifted the car. 1 to 2 perfect shift. 2 to 3 perfect shift. It wont shift from 3 to drive. a couple minutes later the transmission light come on again with the same code. Of course the dealer recomends a new transmission because they dont fix them (even if its a $100. problem). I took off the transmission bottom pan. Fluid was dirty from not being changed in a long time, however there is no burn smelling or metal shavings to be found. The inside of the pan was flawless of metal. I changed the filter put new Dexron fluid in as recommed. Cleared data took for a test drive and same thing happens. Please tell me if you kinow what is wrong for sure. Im almost positive it is a S1 or S2 solenoid. Please give me your professional advise.

I hear it on the radio all the time about amcco, aamco, or ammco transmission specialist (SF Bay Area). Maybe they can fix it without replacement.

Default RE: Transmission Problem HELP

If you bought an used vehicle, the previous owner probalby had never even drained and refilled 3 quarts of transmission fluid.

Yeah, aamco guys can help.

I was asking about how much it would cost for the transmission repair and I guess it meant taking the transmission down, take it apart and rebuild it with any parts that needs to be replaced.

Aamcohad Isuzu rodeo and and tropper.(Isuzu vehicles have lots of transmission failures by the way)

He told me isuzu customer for rodeo had to pay about 3200 dollars.

A possible reason the dealer might not fix your transmission is that they don't get great return on fixing yours. If you talk about the whole transmission, they might ask you about 6000 and might be willing to do it.

If you go to certain private shops, they don't like to do oil changes. If something goes wrong, then it cost them about 2500 to 3000 for the whole engine but you know how much they get paid for a regular oil change... 20 to 30 dollars.
