I have been getting a strong petrol smell after filling the tank and after one of the there were some few drops on the ground. I thought this might be the result of overfilling the tank and there were some overflow. However, in one of my last few fill-ups, I realised that the petrol was leaking to the floor but after some time it stopped. My small research was that the ventilator hose might be the one cause of the spill. My Volvo is an S80 model sedan 2007. Any expert view on the matter?

 

Not an expert view but I had the same symptoms on my 1994 960 sedan and it was a faulty vent hose coming out of the top of the fuel tank.
