I've got a listing for a 1998 V90 Wagon with a broken timing belt and I was wondering if the engine in that model was interference or not. I want to know what I'd be getting myself into before going to check it out.

 

Yes that engine will have 24 bent valves. (it's the same as all the other "white block" 4 and 5 cylinder engines) And will cost way more (retail) to fix than the car is worth. Even if you are doing all the labor by your self - you will spend more than the car is worth fixing it.

 

Hasn’t the timing belt been changed? It should’ve been if serviced with Volvo. Check under the bonnet for a square grey sticker with a picture of a timing belt on it.
