Default 2018 S90 Inscription Air Conditioning Problems

i purchasers the 2018 S90 Inscription in February.

Honestly, it is an amazing car! Beautifully designed, comfortable, and a head turner!

The only issue we’ve encountered is with the AC.

While driving, it’s as if the condenser turns off yet the blower remains on.

Set at LO and Auto Fan 5.

It it will be cold a cold can be and then all of the sudden, warm air. After a few minutes it comes back on. However, by that time it has become very humid and hot in the cabin.

The dealer ended up keeping it for three weeks (and gave me a brand new XC90 as a loaner - seriously it had 12 miles on it).

They couldn’t figure it out so they finally replaced the condenser.

It was working okay for about a month. Now it’s doing it again.

To me it it seems like it is the electronics.

If I put it in neutral and rev the engine it usually kicks back on.

Sometimes It will kick back on if I turn of the AC (leaving the blower on) and turn it back on.

Anyone emae experience this?

Did you ever find the solution for this?
I am having a similar issue with MY 2018 XC90. My AC only has one fan speed and it's 1. It's always had an issue with fan speed before (3 was the same as 5), but never like this. I assume it's electronic issues, taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

The dealer ended up replacing the condenser, working with Volvo Sweden to reprogram, and they switched out something else I can’t remember. Now it seems to work fine. Ironically, I got an XC90 a few months later and never had a problem.

Good luck!

Sounds like the same issue I had. I guess I'll keep my appointment for tomorrow.

How did your appointment go? We're having what sounds to be the same issue with our 2018 XC90 but live 400 miles from the nearest Volvo dealership. We're finding if we shut the air off completely, wait for about 10 seconds, and turn it back on, the cool air returns, albeit temporarily. Fingers crossed they have the solution figured out!

My dealer rep said they've seen a few of these. If there is freon missing they will have to replace parts. If not there might be a software issue. They might need my care for a week, but they gave me a new V90 as a loaner.

I'll post my results asap.

By the way 10 seconds might not be long enough if the unit freezes up. When I shut down the a/c for about 10 minutes it gave it time to defrost.

Good luck!

I just picked up my car from the dealer.

I'll quote Repair Order "FOUND THE COMPRESSOR CONTROL SOLENOID STUCK AT 1429 KPA. REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR CONTROL SOLENOID AND RETEST THE SYSTEM. THE PRESSURE NOW DROPS TO 1127KPA AT 50% DUTY."

It appears they replaced 3 solenoid valves. So it looks like it was an electronic issue. Hope this helps!

Socalminor,

I have the same problem just like you described. I can hear the fan blowing in the dash but, it like there is a door thats not opening.. let the car sit and it seems to come back and work fine??? Trip to boston 90 miles works fine, visit hospital for an hour. Start home works half way back and acts up??

same car 2018 S90 T6 momentum bought Feb. 2020
It's a certified used so i might have to bring it in like you and see what they can find
