I usually don't go out of the 850 forum, but everyone there is doing ok at the moment so I'm checking out other forums.

Is A/C shutting off under full-throttle? If so, the kick-down switch may be shutting off the compressor momentarily to prevent the A/C from depriving power. This is a normal operation in the case of 850, as per the owner's manual. Check to see if your car has the same function. If, however, it is happening under partial throttle, the system may be low on refrigerant. If there is a sight glass, you can visually check the refrigerant level, but 850 doesn't have one.

I hope this will get you started, or wait till someone in this forum replies with more accurate suggestions.

If just the Air diverts then it is either the Vaccum controller or one of the 4 vaccum bellows bad.

 

samething happens to my car too, the a/c automaticly just shut off when im driving, well just automatic swich over to the fan. kills me when its summer like right now [>:]. i took the car in to the shop to fix so many times, just cant seem to FIX the problem. HELLLLLLLLLPPP anybody knows?i have a non turbo S90 actually my husband drives this car and its killing him in the summer. we cant buy a new car now since we just bought one [&o]. so any suggestions PLEASE...... let me no, thanks!!!

 

Does it do it with recirc off?
It might be the vacuum controller in the dash.
