Default Fuel Injector Seals (placement)

From what I understand, the spacer (gray piece) in the fuel injector seal kit for the S90, is the wrong size and a "throw away". I've heard others say that you should use the old spacer. Problem is that I don't have the old spacers and am going to have to make do somehow - so I'm seeking some advice here.

The spacer looks like it is 1) too thick - not leaving adequate space for the o-ring and cap, and 2) way too large on the I.D. making it flap around on the injector body.

I see some relief in the molding of the opening of the cap, is the cap supposed to be press fit onto the tip of the injector?
