New to the 90 series... what parts are shared with other chassis?
Greetings all, I recently acquired volvo number 6 for me. A '98 S90, black over dark gray (charcoal?) leather with the cold weather package and an interior in very good condition for the mileage (112k). A few bits and pieces to repair, but nothing major.
The backstory: after a foray into FWD land from 2003-present (with a C70 that I customized and modified rather extensively - VERY fast and fun but "finicky"), life has taken over and I no longer have the time to tinker as much... need a more reliable daily driver and maybe I'll get a completely impractical second car at some point down the road. Trying to do both in one car was a mistake. Sold it at a huge loss and moved on.
I'm very familiar with the P1 70 series (and it's close relative, the 850 series) from my time with the C70. Prior to that I've had four older 700 series, so know my way around earlier RWD platforms. This S90 is a bit of a strange duck to me in many ways, though.
Steering wheel, front seats, climate control, instrument cluster, radio look like 850/70 series stuff, but maybe not an exact match. Dash board (speaker grilles, at least) harkens back to the 700 series. Suspension is supposedly unique to the 90 series, but the car runs the typical FWD offset ( +38) instead of RWD offset wheels although it is RWD. No performance modifications readily available to speak of!!! I can live with no engine upgrades (whenever it croaks I'm thinking V8) but no swaybars, no skid plate, no chassis brace, no lowering, no shock upgrades, no bigger brakes... c'mon people?!?!
Is there any rule of thumb guidance out there for S90 owners? For example "if you see an engine part for a XXXX S80 or a suspension part for an YYYY S70, it will probably fit" or anything like that? I am feeling lost like last year's easter eggs.
Thanks in advance for the help & advice,
-Jon

Yes, a man that names his cars fast.
Sorry to say that the S90/960 are pretty unique. It was Volvo's aim to get into the pockets of BMW's 5+ series and the MB's, Lexus, etc. Not much is swapable with other models. It does have a sway bar, not as thick as ipd's, the wheels can go on the 850/S70 series cars, I have seen them there, I think the brakes are great, maybe you have bad pads. I would trade my T-5R brakes with my 960 any day of the week.
I know guys have modded them to be fast but they are pretty solo to my knowledge. The radio's are swapable with the FWD 90's cars but other than that the dash & wood trim is different. Not a lot offered from what I have seen.
You may want to cruise over to TurboBricks.com or SweedSpeed.com to look for preformance options.
