Volvo V90 Mudflaps don't fit my V90 - what changed?
My question relates to a V90 rather than an S90 but I imagine the same will apply to both cars.
I have a 1998 V90 (90,000 miles) which is my "collectors car of the future". It sits most of the time in the garage, while my diesel 940 clocks up the miles.
I am in rural Normandy. The roads are always muddy - tractors almost outnumber cars and North Western France is famous for its rain. My V90 does not have mudflaps, so the bodywork was always drenched in mud thrown up by the wheels.
I ordered a set of four Volvo mudflaps. The front ones went on easily. The instructions say to remove the small covers on the end of the undersills and to rivet the mudflaps in their place. No problem at all.
But I can't fit the rear mudflaps. The plastic underliners of the rear fenders prevents the mudflaps from being put in its place. The mudflaps would fit my 940 with no trouble at all - but not my V90. I am guessing that the plastic underliner was changed late in production of the V90 (mine is one of the last), making the existing mudflaps incompatible with the car.
Question. What is the solution?
I could hack bits off the plastic underliners to make it possible to fit the mudflaps but I feel sure there must be a better way.
Could I replace the fender underliners with those from (say) a 940?
Did Volvo change the mudflap when (I am assuming) they changed the plastic underliner of the rear fender? If so, what are the part numbers of the later mudflaps?
[The part numbers of the rear mudflaps I have are 9134617 and 9134616.]
Thanks for any help.
