wierd sound after start up
I havea 98 S90 and after i start my car in the morning it makes a very loud screeching sound kinda sounding like its coming from the belt. It last for about 10ish minutes or around 2-3 miles. If its cold out( which itnever is in florida) the noise lasts longer. The noise gets louder as i accelerate towards 2k rpms. Please help its very annoying and im sure its an easy fix.

RE: wierd sound after start up
Actually yes,my belt has been. My pulley tensioner broke and the belt popped off when i was doing about 65mphand bent the valves and blah blah blah you know the rest( pretty much blew the head of my car). So ya, its been replaced, and buy a "volvo specialist" (so they say). But this noise seems to be coming from the alternator, maybe my bearings in the alternator are shot? I'm not sure but its very loud and its getting worse. I havn't noticed my battery draining at all so my alternator can't be TOO bad. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks tech.

RE: wierd sound after start up
Similiar issue on a 98 V90. Take off the timing belt cover and check the idler pulley for the camshaft belt. It is NOT the same pulley that the tensioner is. It should be to the right of the tension idler. Squirt a little lube into the center of the idler. Don't lube anything else. Start the car and see if that solves your problem. It isn't a permanent fix, but it will isolate the culprit.
