00 V40 Cam gear seal removal HELP
Hello so i took my car to the local shop, they said my can gear seal is gone and that's were the oil is leaking from. i can do most things at home I have a lot of tools, but I have been told that for the Volvo I need a special Can gear removal tool, because if I don't have that tool, as soon as I pull the cam gear off the camshaft will loose its timing position. IS THIS TRUE or not?? I don't want spend $800 at shop to replace a seal.
Thank you

I have but nothing That's why i logged inn in most of the Volvo forums to ask people that know how to work on Volvos for help, but in 3 different forum no one seems to know how to replace the seal. I am in shock that no one knows. i worked on hondas for over 10 years and i can do everything with my eyes closed, but never worked on a Volvo and I was told that i need a cam removal tool or the camshaft would jump its timing once I remove the cam gear. but i don't see how that could happen?
If it were my car I'd try an Auto-Rx treatment before doing any wrenching. The worst that can happen is that you'll be out 30 bucks.
If you remove the pulleys, you need to lock the cams at the back to reinstall them correctly. You should also pin the crank with the special tool, but its possible to do it without doing that, if you have it in the exact correct position.
IMHO If you wanted to try an engine oil stop leak product I'd try a cheaper one available at any auto parts store and then take the twenty bucks left over from not buying the "Auto-RX" and use it to buy the seal.
