I recently got an 03 V40 , as it is throwing 3 codes 0507 0171 0442 & although check engine light had gone off it is back on I need to get her smogged next week I have been told a software upgrade at dealer will help , It is about 120 miles rountrip and gas is hitting 375 in my area , has anyone had this done??

 

software update is not needed here. Your fault codes are pointing to an intake air leaks somewhere. Do a search on P0507 on the board and you will see a suggestion to check one of the vacuum hoses down by the intercooler which can cause a leak and throw this code. The 0171 is a fuel trim code, indicative of an intake air leak as well and the 0442 refers to the evap system which also has a vacuum line. Typically the 0442 code is caused by the j hose going into the carbon cannister in the rear quarter by the fuel tank so check Google/Youtube for how to inspect that hose.
