Default Is the 1.6 petrol engine reliable?

Hi. I have a 2012 S60 with the 1.6 B4164T engine. It has done 100 000km and the valve seals are leaking, so there is a cloud of blue smoke when I start it from sitting. I have been thinking of getting a V40 to replace it, but most of them have the same engine. Is the engine unreliable, or is my one an exception? Should I go for the 2.0 or 2.5 five cylinder?
Thanks for the advice.
