I have a 1997 V40 that has done 119,000km. At times it looses power the engeine cuts out completely then comes back at this stage the radio code has to be entered. Other times the motor will cut out completly and all electrical power is lost. Let the car sit turn the key the instrument lights come on dimly but the starter does not engeage , wait awhile longer and turn the key the car stars and runs perfectly for weeks the radio code needs to be put in. An auto electrician suggested a faulty battery this was replaced the car went ok for months then starts to stop again , . Is there such a thing as a faulty ignition selenoid or something that cuts all electrical power eg factory anti theft engine immobiliser.
