2000 Volvo V40 lower Brake lights
Hello:
A few months ago, I purchased a project car, a 2000 Volvo V40 wagon. It is the first Volvo I have worked on. I have changed the variable camshaft sprocket, radiator, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, pulley, serpentine belt, plugs and oil & filter to start. The issue that has been a challenge is resolving the non-operational lower brake lights. When depressing the foot brake pedal, only the top center brake light functions. I checked the 21w bulbs and fuse and they tested to be good. Since the upper center brake light functions, the brake light switch should be good too. I followed the wiring schematic in a Haynes manual and found that the Volvo failure sensor, part # 30862380, distributes the voltage from the brake switch to the 21w bulbs. I have searched extensively for this part, but have been unable to located it in the V40 wagon. Question 1: Is Volvo par# 30862380 the most likely cause of the failure? Question 2: Were exactly is Volvo part# 30862380 located in the Volvo V40? 3: Are there any other possible causes that I have overlooked?
Thanks,
Glenn
