2001 V40 Cold/Wet Starting
I have a 2001 V40 that won't start when it's cold and wet. The problem is in the morning after it has rained at night and the temperature is less than 40 degrees F (5 degreesC). It starts fine when warm and wet or cold and dry and runs fine other than that. When it's cold and wet I can started it by continually pumping the accelerator and letting it idle at high speed until it warms up (about 10 minutes). It's been to the shop several times for this problem, tuned up and plug wires changed. I don't smell gas, but can hear something like fluid running when trying to start. Recently the P0102 Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor light came on, but the problem was long before that. HELP!

Hi there. I also get the same problem as you and it's reoccuring again. Exactly what happens to yours but only happened in winters. I also had O2 sensor, EGR sensor (?), and other stuff replaced last year. So far so good. And then yesterday the cold start went screwed up again and I had to slam the accelerator to keep it from... stalling. Now it still drives and then I went to my mechanic (because engine light on), this time MAF went bad.
May I also ask which gas station you go? cuz I start to wonder the newly-legislated 10% ethanol content has something to do to screw up the car.
